Important: IRS System Outage Does Not Extend Payment Deadlines
We want to make you aware of an important notice regarding potential IRS system outages.
Even if IRS online systems (such as Direct Pay) are temporarily unavailable, tax payment deadlines generally remain in effect. This means that payments are still required to be made on time to avoid penalties and interest, unless the IRS formally announces relief.

If you are unable to submit a payment through standard IRS systems, you still have several options:
- Mailing a check or money order, ensuring it is postmarked by the due date
- Same-day wire transfers arranged through your financial institution
- Electronic payments through alternative methods such as EFTPS (if already enrolled; enrollment can take multiple days)
- Credit or debit card payments via IRS-approved payment processors
We recommend acting early and not waiting until the last day, especially during periods of system instability.
The IRS Direct Pay outage will generally not have any impact on payments that have already been scheduled. The outage only affects the ability to schedule a new payment, modify/cancel an existing payment, or view confirmations or payment status.
